This year we return to VidCon, the conference “For People Who Love Online Video.” Why? Because, seriously, it’s too much fun. How can we not have fun when we are one of the most popular booths there? Every year, we arrive at 8:00 a.m. to find a line already forming around our space. And it is a line that never stops growing. All day, every day, for 3 days, people stand in line for 4–5 hours, waiting to get their henna tattoos! And that’s with two artists working around the clock as fast as possible. When one of the artists needs a restroom or lunch break, I literally feel guilty for making all those people wait one extra minute!
Every year we try another way to alleviate the wait times. For example, last year we found an app that allowed people to put their name on a list, and receive an alert when their turn came around. Once they got their alert, they had 15 minutes to get back to our booth. It mostly worked, except for when people took longer to come back, at which point we had to ask them to stand in line again.
This year, we’re trying something different. We’re going to offer both the services of an artist and a DIY table, which will allow 12 people at a time to test out our kits, using the stencils that come in them. People who want to try their hand at using our stencils or creating their own designs will get to do that FREE! And if they want to buy a kit, we’ll let them have it for over 40% off while at the event. For $25, people wanting a design created just for them by a professional artist will walk away with both the design and a kit of their choice. Now, that’s a deal! Given that artists typically charge $20+ for designs, and our kits average $26, that’s a $56+ value!
